Cassette - Edition of 50 - sold out

Perceptual Tapes is proud to present the debut full-length album of Giannis Gogos, a photographer and experimental musician from Alexandroupolis, Greece. ‘Roads’ comprises seven delicate ambient pieces, created with cassette recordings and degraded tape loops of analogue and organic sounds, string and wind instruments, and electronic treatments. Roads has a refined character – gentle, with a sense of space, yet dense with interesting layers and sonic textures – that belies Giannis’ relative newness as a recording artist. Inspired by his lonely photographic wanderings in nature, the soundscapes bring to mind images of pale light filtering through foggy woodland canopies.

Giannis comments, ‘Misty landscapes and forests create a dreamy environment where mystery, memories and nostalgia co-exist in harmony.’

Reviews

Alexandroupolis, Greece-based artist Giannis Gogos makes his debut on the Hobart, Australia label Perceptual Tapes with Roads. Gogos utilises tape loops and cassette recordings of analogue and organic found sounds augmented with strings and wind instruments to create seemingly constantly evolving, fragile ambient soundscapes. The organic, crepuscular quality of Gogos' soundworld evokes the natural world as if one were the last man on earth taking a lonely wander through the misty woodlands of some remote forest during twilight.
